Dam Funk - Burgundy City

Single Review by Steve Glencross | 15 Jul 2008
Single title: Burgundy City
Artist: Dam Funk
Label: Stones Throw
Release date: Out Now

The US hip-hop stable that is Stones Throw continues to throw down a solid stream of quality music, something that you’ve come to expect with their outstanding roster of artists. They’re known more for their hip-hop focus, but lately they’ve branched out, with the signings of new wave / post-punk man James Pants and now LA based Dam Funk, a producer with a love for boogie, modern soul and electro-funk. It’s a cool 2 tracker: Burgundy City on the A is a soulful staggered synth groove, an enjoyable re-take of a classic sound, while Galactic Fun follows it on the B: it's an upbeat boogie cut, soaked in bended synth stabs and raw percussion. Retro done well is a rarity, and this is one of those occasions.[Steve Glencross]
