Correcto - Joni

There's nothing to really hate here, but nothing to fall in love with either.

Single Review by Heather Crumley | 07 Dec 2007
Single title: Joni
Artist: Correcto
Label: Domino
Despite this single's pedigree (released on Domino, usually a hallmark of quality and featuring Franz Ferdinand's Paul Thomson on drums), Joni never quite takes flight. It's spiky guitar pop done fairly well, but the tune never really goes anywhere, and the seemingly endless repetitions of "Joni, Joni" somehow make it feel very long indeed. The production feels dated too; Danny Saunders' vocals are buried under chugging guitar chords, reminiscent of only the poorest Britpop bands. That said, Joni is a catchy slice of pop and there's nothing to really hate here, but nothing to fall in love with either, and that, sadly, renders this exercise irrelevant. [Heather Crumley]
