Cherry Ghost - 4AM

Lyrics about washing your hair and getting the last bus home aren't going to excite anyone

Single Review by Heather Crumley | 08 Oct 2007
Single title: 4AM
Artist: Cherry Ghost
Label: Heavenly
They're ain't not any place on earth that loneliness ain't be first, drawls Simon Aldred, aka Cherry Ghost, aiming for profound and landing somewhere closer to incoherence. Previous single People Help The People was a beautiful piece of shivery melancholy pop: this follow up is lukewarm, a bit country and not even half as good. Yes, 4am is pleasant enough, but lyrics about washing your hair and getting the last bus home aren't going to excite anyone, especially when coupled with appalling syntax, and by the time it shuffles to a conclusion, even Aldred sounds bored. Inoffensive, but not really worth the effort. [Heather Crumley]
