Beat Six - When the Chemicals Ignite

Passion reigned in by style

Single Review by Jamie Borthwick | 12 May 2008
Single title: When the Chemicals Ignite (With Fuel)
Artist: Beat Six
Label: Brass Monkey
Release date: 12 May

From the clear, upright bass line and sloshing reverb guitar strum of the opening phase of this song there’s a striking 80s theme waiting to be developed. Singer Rob Williams’s introduction to the fray confirms the notion, but the Duran Duran influence is worn with pride. Forget the dated synths and decadent over-use of instrument effects – When The Chemicals Ignite builds hungrily up to a stomping guitar rock crescendo, all angular guitar, punchy bass and crashing percussion. Able, adept and honest, with passion reigned in by style.
