Smith 6079 - Ghosts

2/5 stars
Thematically released EP from Mancunian quintet
Single review by Lauren Mayberry.

Manchester quintet Smith 6079 appear to be purveyors of a sound that can only be described as “geezer”. Releasing the suitably creepy download single Ghosts on All Hallows Eve, this could be a band for fans of any number of acts falling under the lad rock umbrella, mixed with a little Iron Maiden in the vocal department. However, a predictable melody and song format, combined with some questionable lyrics - singer Moon proclaims: “Inside the moon there’s a man in a hat, singing songs of revenge like a venomous cat”- leaves one wanting more from a band with such a cult hometown following. Maybe it just doesn’t translate elsewhere. [Lauren Mayberry]
