Bonde Do Role - Solta O Frango

Best enjoyed in the summer, with added alcohol

Single title: Solta O Frango
Artist: Bonde Do Role
Label: Domino
As far away from generic indie dreck as can be imagined, Solta O Frange is Brazilian rap over Bailefunk beats. If the band were not from Brazil, the blunt production and heavy reliance on a drum machine might lead to accusations of misappropriation. Their rapping is more nursery school than gangster, mostly ignoring the belches and burps of the backing. The melody is single finger synthesizer, the chorus a load of incoherent shouting and the drums a novelty interlude. That said, it is quite funny and charming, in a childlike way: doubtless best enjoyed in the summer, with added alcohol. [Margaret Kirk]
