The Xcerts - My Book Laughs

Safely clunking over a pop punk rhythm.

Single Review by Garry Thomson | 11 Apr 2007
Single title: My Book Laughs
Artist: The Xcerts
Label: One

The Xcerts seem to have done away with any notions of subtlety and complexity with this, their second single. It comes from being young and angry; really just wanting to let fly with some chunky riffs but holding back to retain some sort of listenable tune.

There isn't anything here to blow anyone away, and on its surface, My Book Laughs appears like daytime radio-friendly fodder. But the distorted guitars safely clunking over a pop-punk rhythm makes this the sort of track that you wouldn't mind soundtracking the tackling of a sinkful of dishes. [Garry Thomson]

Release Date: 9 April.
