Clinic - If You Could Read Your Mind

3/5 stars
surprisingly infectious

Most artists probably haven't picked up a flute or an auto harp since music class at their local comprehensive. Four-piece Clinic manage to get both onto new single 'If You Could Read Your Mind', with menacing effect. Despite a sinister feel, it's surprisingly infectious stuff, with the snarling appeal of XtrMntr and Evil Heat-era Primal Scream. Yet it's still more subtle than Bobby Gillespie and Co, with shimmering guitars and an unforgettable hook throughout. [Andrew Dewar]
