Mystery Jets - Diamonds In The Dark

4/5 stars
A triumphant and classic pop song.
Single review by Ally Brown.

So Mr Mystery Jet met this young lass at school, loved her and lost her, and now he's regretful. Instead of putting on his cannae-take-it face and mawkishly balladeering about her, he's taken the Teardrop Explodes' romanticism and the Killers' guitar-pop sheen and written a triumphant and classic pop song about the whole palaver. Now, OK, the theme is age-old, the vocals and lyrics are nothing special, there ain't no crazy jazz solo or clever squelchy bit, so it doesn't have a lot to remark about. In fact, it's more basic than bread, but sometimes pop works in Mysterious ways. [Ally Brown]
