The Gullivers - Legerdemain EP

Single Review by Ryan Drever | 07 Sep 2009
Single title: Legerdemain EP
Artist: The Gullivers
Label: Self-released
Release date: 7 Sep

A Wall Against The Noise kicks off this second offering from Oxford four-piece, The Gullivers, creeping in with a wash of keyboard ambience and skeletal, guitar twinkling. The co-op vocals of Sophie McGrath and Mark Byrne keep each other aloft and this honest and almost innocent quality to the vocals just manages to sit atop the wistful melodies and shimmering delicacy of these four tracks. Millieus conjures up the kind of sparkling guitar work Explosions In The Sky or American Football would be proud of; Footfalls is a bit more straight-laced, almost trimming the fat, but the subtle beauty of the piano-led Letters is strong enough to carry any dead weight. However, The Gulliver's charm alone warrants a second listen.
