Meursault - Nothing Broke EP

Single Review by Milo McLaughlin | 01 Jun 2009
Single title: Nothing Broke EP
Artist: Meursault
Label: Song, By Toad Records
Release date: Out Now

Amongst the 'bigger' songs on Meursault's debut album, A Single Stretch of Land showed that songwriter and vocalist Neil Pennycook can do pared-back and restrained as well as he does full-throated and full-on electro. This gorgeous EP is further proof of their versatility - give them a laptop or give them a banjo, harmonium and some handclaps, and the end result is equally as stunning. Red Candle Bulb is a cover of the song by the sublime Withered Hand, of whose band Pennycook is also an integral part. Part 1 and 2 of William Henry Miller will appear again in a fuller form, but for now get your hands on this limited edition release any way you can. Essential listening.

Playing Sneaky Pete's, Edinburgh on 20 June and Playing With the Past at The Pleasance, Edinburgh on 26 June.
