Larkin Poe – Summer EP

Single Review by Alan Souter | 01 Dec 2010
Single title: Summer EP
Artist: Larkin Poe
Label: Edvins
Release date: 13 Dec

The second instalment in a seasonal series from Larkin Poe, the Summer EP arrives a fortnight before Christmas – thus the lush Americana and harmonious voices of the Lovell sisters will mostly be enjoyed whilst enduring pishin’ rain and hurling gales. Praying For The Bell is a smooth country opener, displaying lyrical maturity beyond their years – the sisters are 19 and 20 – and showcasing musicianship with a thick full sound and gorgeous pedal steel. The musical ear-tickling continues with the bluegrass pop of Sea Song; such close harmonies can always sound great, but when sung by siblings every little nuance is identical. If you’ve a thirst for modern country, Larkin Poe might just be your new favourite Dixie Chicks. [Alan Souter]
