Y'All Is Fantasy Island - Infanticidal Genuflector

Album Review by John Wylie | 15 Jan 2009
Album title: Infanticidal Genuflector
Artist: Y'All Is Fantasy Island
Label: Wise Blood Industries
Release date: Out Now

Y'All Is Fantasy Island are a rock band, and Infanticidal Genuflector is a collection of experimental ambient soundscapes up to 20 minutes in length, their third album of 2008 no less; which might lead you to suspect that Adam Stafford and the YIFI boys have lost their minds: like Spinal Tap going hippy, or Kanye going emo. Don't worry, they haven't, but if they ever did get bored of guitars and rhythm, there's another avenue for YIFI right here. A low-key compendium of unreleased soundtrack work, available for free download, Infanticidal Genuflector bears no burden of expectation and doesn't disappoint. Only glimmers of melody may emerge from long segments of teasing build-up or looping haze, the longest of which is cacophonous closing track Hammer Eats Hoover, YIFI's own You Made Me Realise. But as a background album, it's a frequently fascinating curio of the fast-expanding YIFI discography. Right now their musical proficiency is frightening.
