Worriedaboutsatan - Arrivals

Album Review by Stephen Toman | 25 May 2009
Album title: Arrivals
Artist: Worriedaboutsatan
Label: Gizeh Records
Release date: 25 May

With its slow chord changes and floating beats, Arrivals at times sounds as though it is being played underwater. Crackly glitches and beeps are smoothed of their abrasiveness, their repetition becoming soothing as the beats subtly change, clouded and far away only to suddenly sound as though the source is right inside your own head. The occasional appearances of female vocals add to the musicality of the layered sounds emphasising melodies submerged within the textures and are used more as an instrumental feature than a focal point. The tracks are perhaps too similar sounding to one another to warrant equal attention, but with headphones on and the lights out, the chilled mood and shifting textures of the record will have you drifting off (or dozing off, if its been a hard day) only to be startled to attention by the silence when it all ends.
