Neo-classical progressive metal from Norway. If it's on a menu there's a good chance you might not order it, but there's a guy across the restaurant who did. At a table for one in the corner. He's the best part of 7 feet tall. He kept his ankle-length trench coat on despite the restaurant being busy and a little stuffy. His perfectly conditioned, jet black hair hangs to his knees, obscuring his face as he hunches over the plate. He takes another elegant sip from a glass of thick red wine. Piano, violins, harmonised guitar solos that meander effortlessly through shifting keys whilst an unfaltering double kick drum reminds you this is about the bad stuff: Satan and dragons and dead elfin princesses. The vocals are eerily smooth and cultured and muse upon the wonders of existence and the finality of death. How can we evaluate what we don't understand?
Indeed. Two pizzas please. [Chris Cusack]
