Whiplash - Losing Control

Album Review by Ryan Drever | 04 Apr 2010
Album title: Losing Control
Artist: Whiplash
Label: Self-Released
Release date: Out Now

Australian MC, Whiplash, doesn't so much spit rhymes as dribble them, drooling nearly indecipherable vocal trails that are nearly all lost in a maze of gawdy homemade production - a mixture of second rate G-funk and bad karaoke versions of Nelly songs. Lyrically, Whiplash collectively and consistently falls flat, failing to ever truly reach beyond a flaccid Eminem impersonation.

From some rather lazy swearing and tame gangsta references to frightfully uninspired retellings of sexual encounters he borders on the ridiculous and childish - I'm hard as a stone/hard as a bone/only one more yard till she's gotta moan/I had my finger in her pie/getting ready to take her to another high. If any of these gems were delivered with passion or any real sense of attiude, perhaps he would get away with it, but sadly, in this case he most definitely does not.
