Spike Jonze’s latest short film I’m Here has brought with it this collection of old and new indie-cool material to soundtrack his urban robotic love story. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Nick Zinner is key to the new stuff, penning the film’s central and recurring lullaby motif There Are Many of Us as well as an abridged re-working of The Past Is a Grotesque Animal by Of Montreal.

There are well-known cuts from the Animal Collective, Girls and Gui Boratto which work well in the context, whereas A/B Machines, by recent hype-mongers Sleigh Bells, is pretty woeful outside of its 10 second in-film appearance and quite jarring with the languid feel of what surrounds it. Still, I’m Here is a largely deft collection that, like the film itself, is short and to the point. It’s also limited to 5000 copies worldwide, so best be on the ball on release day. Robotic head costumes optional. [Darren Carle]
