Various Artists - Chairman of the Board: Surf Soundtracks '64-'74

Like, totally gnarly dude.

All those classic surf soundtracks in one place? Like, totally gnarly dude. Chairman of the Board collects, exactly as its name might suggest, all those songs that made surf films so cool between 1964 and 1974. Although the collection isn't that varied – seven groups make up all of the 18 tracks here, it's as valid and as cool a snapshot of a bygone era as the American Graffiti soundtrack, spanning wah-wah rock, psychedelia, funk, trance drumming and fuzzy boogie. The occasional snippets of surf commentary are rather bizarre in their monotone and do little to add to the atmosphere but nonetheless, the whole album is a perfect companion to any foam and loud shirt party. A special mention must go to G Wayne Thomas's Hollywood ("O Hollywood, O Hollywood, I love everything you do") which remains as relevant today as it ever did. A bygone era indeed. Radical.
