V/A mixed by High Contrast - Watch The Ride

Album Review by Don McVinnie | 23 May 2008
Album title: Watch The Ride
Artist: V/A mixed by High Contrast
Label: Harmless Records
Release date: out now

High Contrast shows how a real drum n bass mix should sound: kicking things off with the old school sound of Axwel's retro hit I Found You, piano stabs aplenty, High Contrast's own remix is a colourful combination of 90s rave sounds with a modern DnB twist. He progresses with floorfillers She Lied from Mistabishi and Agent Alvin's Wicked Man. Moving on through the mix are some of High Contrast's trademark deep DnB sounds in Matrix & Shimon's Slipstream and Zinc's Twelve, alongside more retro goodness from Blame, and big room numbers like Brookes Brothers' Open Your Eyes and HC's own If We Ever (here remarkably appearing on its third Watch The Ride compilation). At 25 tracks HC keeps the pace up relentlessly, but it's definitely a good thing as DnB this intense would hold the attention of even the worst ADHD sufferer.
