Trash Talk – Eyes & Nines

Album Review by Ryan Drever | 27 May 2010
Album title: Eyes & Nines
Artist: Trash Talk
Label: Hassle
Release date: 31 May

Screaming out of Sacramento, Trash Talk arrive at their second full-length in five years with experience and venom. Aided by the capable hands of producer Joby Ford (The Bronx) as well as guest appearances from bandmate Matt Caughthran and Circle Jerks/Bad Religion's Greg Hetson, Eyes & Nines takes Trash Talk's destructive vision to new levels, pulling from hardcore influences old and new to create a unique and punishing record. Doused in gnarling, red-raw vocals courtesy of frontman Lee Spielman, the album's 18 or so minutes move from breakneck old school (Trudge, Envy) to grinding blast beats (On A Fix) to full on doom-laden sludge (Hash Wednesday) with equal potency. And though it will never quite fully capture the violence and energy of the band's unpredictable – and increasingly infamous – live show, Eyes & Nines still stands as an impressive and volatile salute to the power of the genre.
