Tosca - No Hassle

Album Review by Nicol J. Craig | 03 Apr 2009
Album title: No Hassle
Artist: Tosca
Label: !K7 Recordings
Release date: 20 Apr

Anyone expecting the usual Viennese club grooves will be surprised. Tosca have made a laid-back record which highlights the pair’s easy-going ethos, hence the title. No Hassle creates an acutely pensive atmosphere, and plays like an art exhibit. The duo have shied away from using vocals; each track is stripped of any superfluous sounds, which gives the album an introspective ambience. Dorfmeister’s (Kruder & Dorfmeister) DJ background influences the gentle electronica while Huber displays his musical prowess using guitars, piano compositions, analogue and digital synths. Oysters In May is reminiscent of early Faithless, with a nod to Massive Attack. Elektra Bregenz and Rosa both emphasise the crafted nature of their work with infectious acoustic riffs that meander through space. This album will subdue even the most severe of freak-outs.
