The Rifles - No Love Lost

No Love Lost then, just not enough gained

Album Review by Jon Seller | 15 Jul 2006
Album title: No Love Lost
Artist: The Rifles
Label: Red Ink/Right Hook
This debut LP from 'London Mod-punks' The Rifles is a tricky one. At times managing to navigate the choppy seas of punk music using courses first chartered by Clash and Jam, the Walthamstow quartet slip all too easily into the more recent channel occupied by the Ordinary Boys and Hard-Fi. With this in mind, 'No Love Lost' leaves you thinking there could be great things to come, and with the scathingly brilliant She's Got Standards and melancholy sentiments of One Night Stand this album certainly gives you a glimmer of that. Debut single Peace & Quiet is also a cracker but further numbers Robin Hood and She's the Only One are all too easily forgettable. No Love Lost then, just not enough gained. [Jon Seller]
