The Hussy's - Super Pro

Plods along like above-average album filler material, hunting for a handful of spanking, glitter-strewn singles that never materialise

Album title: Super Pro
Artist: The Hussy's
Label: Fat Cheerleader
Release date: 1 Sep

With their kitsch-metal artwork and singer Fili’s sassy, bubblegum-chewing demeanour, it’s hardly surprising that The Hussy’s (sic) are ‘big in Japan’. And they’re not doing too badly over here either, having toured with Scouting For Girls and The Hoosiers. But let’s not hold that against them. What we can hold against them is their rather sexless, sugary indie-pop (TM) that the band themselves vaguely describe as ‘disco-esque’ and ‘pseudo-country’. Much of Super Pro, the Glaswegian sextet’s debut, simply plods along like above-average album filler material, hunting for a handful of spanking, glitter-strewn singles that never really materialise. Radar is the nearest they come to a memorable tune, whilst the punchy ‘rawk’ guitar-squalls of Rachel will prick up ears. However, these moments are few and far between, with some unappealing ‘rhyme-at-all-cost’ lyrics that would have Noel Gallagher thinking twice waylaying the journey. It's not great, nor is it awful, but sometimes mother knows best - The Hussy’s are usually best avoided. [Darren Carle]
