The Green Door Kids – Musikal Yooth

Album Review by Alan Souter | 17 Dec 2010
Album title: Musikal Yooth
Artist: The Green Door Kids
Label: Optimo Music
Release date: 23 Nov

What a delightfully skew-whiff record this little creature is. If you’ve ever wanted to hear a bunch of kids ripping up The Stooges' I Wanna Be Your Dog or to lend your ears to 10-year old twins totally owning the infectious minimal dance-grooves of New York’s finest ESG – and of course you have – then the Green Door Kids have sure as hell got it going on.

Recorded at Green Door studios in Glasgow, this album is a collaborative effort featuring 10-16 year-old aspiring rockers who attend the Youth Music Summer School in the studio, and their slightly more grown up counterparts – aged 18-25 – enrolled on the Song-Crafters Production Course that also takes place at Green Door. Community spirit notwithstanding this is an exceptionally cool, ever-so-obscure, and hugely enjoyable listen, showcasing an admirable sounding analogue studio with a cast of very talented individuals of all ages rockin' through its doors.
