“Middle fingers up like we don’t give a damn”, begins guest rapper Doubla J on dubstep flavoured Di Finga. Whilst at first glance it appears to be a bog-standard line of braggadocio, as a statement of intent it’s plainly instructive of the Munich trio’s modus operandi. Sub-equatorial rhythms engorged by raspberry basslines characterise a consistently ebullient record – it’s the club equivalent of a Billy Connelly joke, struggling to conceal a smirk that marvels at its own vulgarity. As a result, Schlachthofbronx’s self titled debut is vulnerable to accusations of gaudiness, and the shaky Slavic techno of Redbull & Guinness confirms the argument isn’t without merit. Having said that, missteps are more easily forgiven when a record is brazen enough to suggest that Eastern European folk, kuduro, and dancehall belong to the same big, happy techno family - a guilty pleasure, this 'un.
