Rocket From the Crypt - Live

A fine epilogue

Album Review by Neal Parsons | 06 Mar 2008
Album title: Live
Artist: Rocket From the Crypt
Label: Vagrant
Having flirted with fame in the mid 90s, before reverting to their status quo of being punk's worst kept secret, Rocket From The Crypt called it a day in 2005. This CD and DVD package is the last remains of these rockabilly ghouls. From start to finish they keep it fast and loose with few chances to catch your breath before the ghost train starts up again. Born In '69 has a suitably Stooges feel to it with singer John Reis getting the crowd roaring along to the old fan favourite. Velvet Touch is much the only song that resembles a ballad, and sandwiched in the middle as it is, offers a valuable change of pace. Before long though the devilish Reis assembles his band of underworld dwellers and ratchets up the pace. Ditch Digger is a particular delight with Come See Come Saw closing the proceedings in a typically punk rock'n'roll fashion. A fine epilogue. [Neal Parsons]
