On one hand this could be seen as a brutal, ball-busting album of relentless 'true metal' action that'll make Satan shit blood and your mother weep uncontrollably when she realises what a lousy job she made of raising you. Others might well say this is a dollop of generic metal crap that would make even Dave Mustaine blush at its knuckle-dragging preposterousness. Through the Gates of Hell has all the requisite chops: competent solos, double kick-drums, moronic lyrics aplenty ("We are metal as fuck"), and it's near impossible to read the band's name on the cover. If that's what you want, come get some. The rest of you can steer well clear. Incidentally, should you appreciate this on a purely ironic level you are a total bastard. Metallers hate you and the rest of the world merely tolerates you. Let the metalheads have their dumb shit without being patronised, for the love of the anti-Christ. [Chris Cusack]
