Remember the music of The Winter Olympics? That was Officer Kicks. What about the interludes on Soccer AM? Also Officer Kicks. Even if you don’t recall, I’m sure you'd agree it wasn’t particularly offensive, in fact it's a rather pleasant rock n roll accompaniment. This is the essence of Officer Kicks; they are fine when you are distracted.

But listen properly and you'll find they are full of the banalities that have dragged lad rock down to its disparaged state. Where they promise punchy hooks, they deliver the depressingly familiar. The lyrics initially appear fine, but actually mean absolutely nothing: “So many dreams must a man chop down, before he don’t know which way he’s facing, give me your hand and Ill show you a way, we’ll try to gain a little education". In all likelihood Officer Kicks will continue to get airplay, but only ever as the backing track.
