New Albums This Week: Mugstar, Låpsley & more

The best new albums hitting the shelves this week, including the Rock Action debut of one of Liverpool's finest psych bands, and the much-anticipated debut from Låpsley.

Mugstar – Magnetic Memories (Rock Action)

The Liverpool psych heavyweights make their bow on Mogwai's Rock Action Records label with a collection that takes tripped-out space rock to its disorienting maximum. A record that blends a whole host of elements together, Magnetic Seasons pushes on and on, manhandling you into a spin-cycle of rattling acid wash.

Låpsley – Long Way Home (XL)

Liverpudlian artist Låpsley explores new territory on her debut Long Way Home, adding aspiring pop ballads and ambient piano soul to the tracks which made her name on the Liverpool scene. A bold and confident first LP from a producer – and singer – with great potential.

Matthew Bourne – Moogmemory (The Leaf Label)

A brave and rewarding left field adventure, Bourne's latest album is the first to be recorded entirely on the infamously unruly Moog Memorymoog synth. It demands substantial listener input, but in return it offers a multitude of textures and moods.

• Matthew Bourne will perform Moogmemory at Outskirts Festival in Glasgow this April – get the full line-up here.

Prince Rama – Xtreme Now (Carpark)

It's honestly hard to tell how much of their creepy, rousing glam-pop is tongue in cheek, but there is something bizarrely sincere about the new album from Taraka and Nimai Larson. Best enjoyed now.
