Neutrinos - One Way Kiss

A harrowing gravity that captivates all within their pull

Album Review by Ali Maloney | 08 Sep 2007
Album title: One Way Kiss
Artist: Neutrinos
Label: Wet Nurse Records
Neutrinos are the bits that would be left over if you were to take a nucleus apart and then put it back together again, kind of like the lone unidentified spring leftover after dismantling and rebuilding a pen. They have next to no mass and are very weak. Their John Peel-endorsed musical namesake, conversely, is highly charged with a feisty rock'n'roll sexuality and creates a harrowing gravity that captivates all within its pull. Head banging to shambolic sea shanty laments through punk guitars, One Way Kiss is an exhilarating ride. The band is propulsive and thunderous, while Karen Reilly's vocals are sultry with a strong undercurrent of menace which really gives the Neutrinos their edge. If you like your dark alternative ballads with an aggressive crunch (talking to you Nick Cave fans here), then One Way Kiss could be just what the doctor ordered. [Ali Maloney]
