Middx - Middx

Album Review by David McNamara | 29 Jun 2009
Album title: Middx
Artist: Middx
Label: 2 Track Reocrdings
Release date: 1 June

The self-titled debut album from the mysterious Middx is the perfect example of what is possible when one man masters his craft. The masked producer uses samples, switches and glitches to create glorious nostalgic soul on Pick up the Phone. Got Me Going is an impressive homage to '80s pop with some endearing vocal samples. Elsewhere the album is an impressive collection of cutting-edge electronica and urban rhythms, thanks to some very innovative recording techniques. Patients is futuristic hip-hop at its finest, while Anxious has the makings of a post-apocalyptic electro anthem. In all, there are several tracks here that have the potential to reduce dancefloors across the country to sweaty frenzies. Middx is rapidly gathering praise from a broad spectrum of national music press, and deservedly so; if this album receives the exposure it deserves, he'll certainly become the worst kept secret of 2009.
