Mama Mayhem - Hangman

Album Review by Allan Valente | 22 Apr 2009
Album title: Hangman
Artist: Mama Mayhem
Label: Self Released
Release date: Out Now

Originality was probably never the name of the game for Glasgow’s Mama Mayhem. But while you won’t find brass sections or lyrical ponderings on the meaning of life on their debut album Hangman, what you will find is honest rock n’ roll, the likes of which haven’t been done too well for a while. While never boasting the song quality of rock classics such as Appetite for Destruction, Hangman does include several impressive tunes which reek of Jack Daniels and staying up all night listening to the best of Black Sabbath. Stand out track Devil’s Door sees front man Stephen Lahbib do his best Robert Plant imitation and not completely fail. The album will never change the world; in fact there’s a good chance the Mayhem could slip past unnoticed without too many knowing they ever existed, but they will have a hell of a time as they slip past.
