Knocked Loose have never had so many eyes on them. A meteoric rise has seen them smash through the metal community, break into the mainstream, and even play Coachella. On album three, with the wider world watching, the hardcore Kentuckians don’t just live up to expectations, they beat the living shit out of them.

You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To takes their staunchly savage sound and dashes it with piercing playfulness and crushing confidence; conjuring a profoundly poisonous record containing some of their most deadly moments to date. Bryan Garris's banshee-like shrieks, bolstered by his bandmates' guttural lows and wild wails, deliver a gang-beating of extreme vocals. Snare drums snap harder than broken bones. Eerie guitar leads summon spirits that are less Luigi’s Mansion and more The Exorcist. You Won't Go... is, at times, a terrifying listen.

Singles Blinding Faith and Don’t Reach For Me fired the warning shots. Yet, the ferocious feature tracks Suffocate (with alt-queen Poppy) and Slaughterhouse 2 (featuring Motionless in White's Chris Motionless, reciprocating Garris’s feature on their similarly-titled Slaughterhouse) are the snarling summits of progress on an album that’s as tumultuous as it is head-crushingly hooky.

You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To exhibits a group confidently at their zenith with no signs of slowing down. Many predicted this could be the heavy release of the year – and it’s bloody hard to argue with that.

Listen to: Suffocate, Slaughterhouse 2, Blinding Faith
