John Tejada - Where

Album Review by Steve Glencross | 22 Jun 2008
Album title: Where
Artist: John Tejada
Label: Palette
Release date: 16 Jun

Established and respected minimal tech guy John Tejada weighs in with the 50th release on his own label, a solid yet sometimes predictable home of minimal techno offerings. Known for his polished and finely executed productions on reputable homes such as Ferox, Plug Research and Pokerflat, Tejada unleashes another slice of deep, micro-style club music. There’s some nice moments with Feel It, a classic-sounding Vogel groove, and Pivot, a warm and quirky chord-driven groover being the two clear highlights. But cuts like Moogbits and Turning Point provide evidence of an artist pushing a sound that’s probably had its day. Minimal techno really needs to be world class these days to be considered acceptable - with the current state of cutting-edge electronics, slabs like this become quickly forgettable.
