Indian Handcrafts – Creeps

Album title: Creeps

The Canadian pairing of Brandyn James Aikens and Daniel Brandon Allen might have been cursed with the least rock 'n' roll names in history and they certainly look like your common or garden roots-rock duo, but get ready to raise those eyebrows (and horns) high. Indian Handcrafts have little truck with modish grooves and retro riffery; instead they set their sights on re-visiting, with almost worrying relish, the New Wave of British Heavy Metal.

Immediate reference points: early Metallica, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden. There's a guitar break on, um, Murderers For Hire that will cause Dave Murray to either a) contact his lawyers, or b) piss himself silly. The opening riff of Maelstrom sounds like – seriously – Randy Rhoads. Pretty much every song is a high octane, spandex-clad blast. Refreshingly irony-free and cooler than it has any right to be, Creeps carries enough conviction to go for it utterly minus compromise and it demands that you love it. [Gary Kaill]
