Hundred Reasons - Quick The Word Sharp The Action

Album Review by Ewen Millar | 20 Apr 2009
Album title: Quick The Word Sharp The Action
Artist: Hundred Reasons
Label: Pias
Release date: Out Now

Quick The Word is a re-release of a record that lacks unity, written by a band that needs direction. Hundred Reasons exploded on the music scene at the turn of the millenium, sounding like a British At The Drive-In; this was a band that, from the second they crawled out of bed to sit in front of their cornflakes, to the second they fell asleep, were seemingly bouncing of the walls, moshing and screaming. Flash forward a few years and they had -bizarrely- morphed into a pop-band. Now, they find themselves having their cake and eating it, screaming their way through pop songs, and thrusting their lighters in the air during mosh sessions. In places it's quite hideous, but sometimes, in a weird way, it works; Hundred Reasons should definitely be filed under 'guilty pleasure', but when they get it right (as with radio-friendly tracks No Way Back and I'll Never Know), it's very pleasurable indeed.
