Hrdvsion - Where Did You Just Go?

Album Review by Nick Mitchell | 23 Apr 2010
Album title: Where Did You Just Go?
Artist: Hrdvsion
Label: Wagon Repair
Release date: 3 May

Billed as the record on which he embraces the DJ's primary task of pleasing the crowd, Where Did You Just Go? begs another question: just what did Hrdvsion sound like in his non-conformist days? Like all serious electro heads, Canadian Nathan Jonson moved to Berlin last year, and it was here that he went about remixing much of his older, glitch-ridden material into more structured, danceable techno. It takes a few listens, but Hrdvsion's agile, inky electonica soon loses any alienating first impressions and seeps into the synapses. Cuts like the grand, gothic Cause I Love You or the Erol Alkan favourite Captivated Heart affirm that Jonson was right to come out of his experimental shell. As a result, Where Did You Just Go? is a versatile record, suited as much to walking hunched into the rain as it is to dancing drunkenly in dingy basement bars. [Nick Mitchell]
