Herman Dune – Strange Moosic

Album Review by David McGinty | 07 Nov 2011
Album title: Strange Moosic
Artist: Herman Dune
Label: Fortuna POP!
Release date: 7 Nov

Herman Dune can be a difficult band to get into. Their kitsch ‘quirky’ sound is a factor for some, and for others there can a question of where to start. Of the numerous albums released by the French duo in the last ten years, Strange Moosic is not only their most polished, but is also the first to feature tracks not toured prior to being recorded. As a result the songs – still as simple and as charming as ever – seem fresh, lyrically terse, and unsullied by months on the road.

Whilst I Wish That I Could See You Soon remains their biggest hit to date, currently accompanying a Catalan beer advert in cinemas, that may soon change with Strange Moosic’s Tell Me Something I Don't Know or Be A Doll And Take My Heart. The band’s most concise record to date, this is a great point to get into Herman Dune for those intimidated by their vast back catalogue.
