Freeland - COPE ™ Remixed

Album title: COPE Remixed
Artist: Freeland
Label: Marine Parade
Release date: 11 Jan

Adam Freeland previously courted critical acclaim with COPE ™ (OK, so not in these pages - ed), managing to lure rock luminaries as disparate as Gerald V Casale and Brody Dalle into collaborating with his post rock/electro project. Now he takes it one step further by tossing said album into the dance world and demanding remixes. As with all remix albums it’s a patchy affair, ranging from the inspired dubstep of High Rankin’s Strange Things to the run of the mill house of Grum’s Borderline. Zombie Nation’s funk-punk dissection of Under Control is a definite highlight, spasmodically grooving along in fits of bleeps and electronic farts. High Rankin scores another victory with his remix of Do You, which stumbles into a wobble bass/UK Funky hybrid glazed with the slightest morsel of vocal. A double disc collection with two dozen songs in total, there’s bound to be at least one remix revelation for every listener; it’s just a case of being patient. [Joe Barton]
