Filastine - Dirty Bomb

"World music" from Barcelona and beyond

Album Review by Emma Kilday | 03 Apr 2009
Album title: Dirty Bomb
Artist: Filastine
Label: Soot Records
Release date: Out Now

Producer, percussionist and globetrotter, Filastine originally hails from Barcelona but has travelled to the farthest corners of the globe to find both inspiration and collaborators for the making of this album. The result is a multicultural affair with sounds from Europe, Latin America and the Middle East fusing to create a truly unique sound. Listening to the album is like a journey in itself: it travels through hip-hop, breakcore, Bollywood and dubstep, taking souvenirs from each to form a rich eclectic collection. Each song has a fascinating story behind it: from slicing up the notes of a 5-second violin sample he found in Istanbul to create Singularities' melody line, to recording the haunting female vocals of Como Fugitivos in a cave in Granada, Filastine has made “world music” in its truest sense. Words do this record little justice: its varied soundscape should be experienced directly. It won't be a disappointment.
