DJ Food - One Man's Weird Is Another Man's World

DJ Food returns with his first new music in eight years

Album Review by Jamie Scott | 16 Jul 2009
Album title: One Man's Weird Is Another Man's World
Artist: DJ Food
Label: Ninja Tune
Release date: 6 July

From Jazz Brakes Volumes 1-5 to this limited edition guest packed EP, DJ Food's ever-changing persona continues to morph further into the stratospheres of instrumental jazz-hop. The DJ project was originally established by Coldcut, with the remit of providing "food for DJ's", but One Man's Weird... now finds the artist occasionally known as Strictly Kev greedily gorging himself on sampled funk basslines, sci-fi psychedelia, and vocal samples so stringently B-movie that Extract from Stolen Moments recounts retrogressive impressions of "the future..." Comparable to Mr. Scruff or Cut Chemist for his tight - yet loping - talkative compositions, as well as approaching the hip-hop canvas with the same brush used by Boards of Canada, Food precedes his forthcoming record with the first of three EP's that immerses the listener in an epic journey of fantasy and mind.
