David Tort – Nervous Nitelife

Album Review by Euan Ferguson | 01 Jun 2010
Album title: Nervous Nitelife
Artist: David Tort
Label: Nervous NYC
Release date: 28 Jun

The Nervous Nitelife series continues with a mix by Spanish DJ David Tort, who is apparently the first DJ to be sponsored by Nike. Why a DJ needs a sports company sponsor is questionable, but here he keeps the Nervous NYC ethos alive with a 14-track mix of the pick of the label’s new releases and remixes, including, of course, a fair few by Tort himself.

While some labels have allowed themselves to be seduced by the sleazy glamour of electro or the potential of minimal, Nervous has stayed true to its roots in underground funky US house, so if you’re looking for the bleeding, raw cutting-edge of electronic music, this probably isn’t the place to find it. Instead, there’s plenty of straight-up, floor-filling choons, some a bit techy, some a bit trancey, some a bit Balearic, some a bit Latin. [Euan Ferguson]
