David Kitt - The Nightsaver

Album Review by Heather Crumley | 20 May 2009
Album title: The Nightsaver
Artist: David Kitt
Label: Gold Spillin' Records
Release date: 4 May

David Kitt’s sixth album The Nightsaver is pleasant. Really, seriously, overwhelmingly pleasant. Written, recorded and produced entirely by himself, with the only external input coming from singer Katie Kim on Beat A Retreat, it’s safe to assume that he’s been in a good mood recently and this supposedly Herculean task has been nothing other than a joy. Opener Move It On sets the tone, a shimmering electro-acoustic shuffle which is made for driving at sunset (presumably somewhere hot), and the happily sedated glitchy hum rarely abates. The album’s sunny disposition is somewhat contrary to the fact that it was recorded entirely at night, and it’s only really Learning To Say Goodbye’s crunching paranoia that reflects its creative process. However, that’s not to say The Nightsaver isn’t enjoyable: there are some gorgeous moments, most notably the balmy Don’t Wake Me Up, but for all its dusky charms, it’s sadly rather forgettable.
