Chomp – Buddha Jabba Momma

Most notable for playing in Cloud Nothings, Joe Boyer and Jason Gerycz pound out accelerated power-pop alongside Chris Brown (from Total Babes, that is, not the biggest tool in hip-hop) as Chomp. Their agenda is clear and familiar: this is super lo-fi, fuzzed-out indie rock that doesn't stick around long enough to overstay its welcome.

The trio's influences reveal themselves pretty quickly: Done Waiting evokes past glories like Blue Album-era Weezer with a flicker of early 60s doo-wop, and Mission – Demolition is comparable to the kind of song their pal Dylan Baldi might have penned before he gave his band an overhaul. Buddha Jabba Momma sounds like what it is: a collection of Boyer's home demos, fleshed-out with a little help from his friends. If you're tired of overproduction smothering youthful energy and prefer a raw, honest approach, here's your ticket.
