Brooders – Brooders

Brooders may conjure up an image of some kind of Kim Deal-based tribute act but this three-piece pulled from the Midlands, London and based in Leeds are very much in possession of their own sound and ideas.

Their eponymous debut mini-LP displays the potential of the burgeoning trio, and leaves enough space to explore on any future records. Their record is in good company, having been recorded in Greenmount Studios, Leeds, formerly a temporary home to the likes of The Cribs, Pulled Apart By Horses, The Vaccines and ¡Forward, Russia!.

The influence of any of these groups may not be immediately apparent, but it’s there in the attitude displayed in songs such as the clanging Cling, Blue Eyed Prince and the fittingly-titled lead single Haze, which floats around your ears and head before going for broke and attacking the central nervous system.

Brooders have gone about their business the old-fashioned way: gigging at a near-constant rate and honing their craft in a live environment before taking their lessons to the studio. It’s a tactic that has paid off and seen Brooders pick up the plaudits from a raft of independently-minded blogs and publications.

The group have the envious factor of youth on their side, and they revel in it. Adam Bairstow (guitar/vocals), Adam Speare (bass) and Liam Naylor (drums) appear as if there is plenty of room for them to grow into an efficient, long-lasting unit. It’ll be more than interesting to see how they develop off the back of this debut release.
