Argy - Focus on Argy

Album Review by Steve Glencross | 13 Jun 2008
Album title: Focus on Argy
Artist: Argy
Label: Poker Flat
Release date: 12 Jun

Poker Flat has, over the past while, established itself as one of the true homes of accessible minimal tech, alongside the likes of Get Physical and Co. They have some impressive artists on show including Limacon, Trentemoller and Hakan Lidbo, pumping out a solid stream of cuts that the European club scene readily laps up. This latest slab comes from Greek producer Argy, who with just a small string of releases and remixes has established himself as a key artist on the scene. Focus, his debut long player, is a mix of sci-fi house, polished minimal and hypnotic tech. Standouts are Cantstandlovegetaway (with The Mole), Anemone, an anthemic minimal cut, and In The Mist, a deep and moody atmospheric house groove. It’s decent, but not in the same league as M.A.N.D.Y, Bookashade and the like.
