Andy Lang and The Well - The House that Jack Built

Album Review by Shelley Blake | 16 Dec 2008
Album title: The House that Jack Built
Artist: Andy Lang and The Well
Label: R These UR's
Release date: 12 Dec

This sweet little collection of tunes takes you to a warm and wondrous place: crackling, crunching open fires, good friends and warm and delightful smiles. Best listened to over a glass of vino, on a belly full of yum and preferably in a wee house in the country, Andy Lang and the Well’s new album is a gracious collaboration of sounds. The opening track, Hollow Heart, is a brilliant introduction and gives the full flavour of the innocent treats to follow. Andy Lang is an Edinburgh based musician with a rootsy and organic sound and throughout the recording is accompanied by many of Scotland’s finest. The beautifully crafted country-infused tracks include mandolin, slide guitar, violin and the harmonic sounds of Mike Cameron and Chris Day. Sitting on the shelf right next to Bonnie Prince Billy and Calexico, The House that Jack Built is a kind and very welcome winter listen. [Shelley Blake]
