You know that Celtic folk music TV show on late at night, when most are either out, or asleep because they aren’t? Scottish boys Lau belong there. That is certainly not to say they produce music best avoided, in fact quite the opposite. With three obviously talented traditional musicians at the helm, Arc Light is hearty folk music that will be exciting for fans of the genre. However there is no escaping the fact that Lau produce what many might enjoy for one night at a friend’s ceilidh before heading home and forgetting all about it. It’s a shame on this occasion, as Lau do offer some decent tunes, including The Master and their own take on traditional song Banks of Marble which is a jaunty throwback to days of clans and bards. With scratching fiddles and incessant accordion, it's the perfect accompaniment for a traditional Celtic knees-up.
