Robyn - Robyn

This pint-sized songstress packs a mighty punch, and as far as pop albums are concerned, this one's a knockout

Album title: Robyn
Artist: Robyn
Label: Konichiwa Records
This self-titled release from Robyn is an electro fuelled pop gem with clear influence from hip-hop, drum and bass, reggae and even classical music. Stand-out tracks such as Every Heartbeat and Be Mine are infused with warm melodic strings and choppy beats. It is clear that Robyn is a lady who knows who she is, and what she wants: cue Konichiwa Bitches, her signature tune, with its sassy clipped vocal style, and old-school MC flow. Robyn's honey vocals sit well throughout the whole album, ranging from punchy, as heard on Crash & Burn Girl, to perfectly soulful on Eclipse, a ballad that wouldn't be out of place on a Nora Jones album. It shows Robyn has the ability to be totally diverse in her songwriting. This pint-sized songstress packs a mighty punch, and as far as pop albums are concerned, this one's a knockout. [Omar Jenning]
