1990s - Cookies

Glasgow trio 1990s (no "The" and no apostrophe, mind) have been kicking around in various guises for some time, comprising of former members of The Yummy Fur and V-Twin. Their lyrics tell the usual stories of sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll and the 1990s are (and were) about enjoying yourself. Lush melodies, handclaps and a talent for a chorus ensure these songs won't pry themselves loose from your psyche too soon. There is a definite 70s influence present with some nods toward the Velvet Underground. Singles You're Supposed To Be My Friend, See You at The Lights and opener You Made Me Like It are highlights. A little glam and a little art rock, 1990s are said to count fellow weigies Franz Ferdinand amongst their muckers, which will surely do them no harm at all. Scruffy indie kids with bad teeth: they could even be mates of Pete Doherty. They certainly look like they have a few hits up their sleeves. [Julie Paterson]
